What’s up with the Bell Market building?

It has been sitting vacant for many months, and the residents of San Carlos have long been wondering what the future of the old Bell Market location on Laurel Street will be. Restaurant? Retail? Another grocery store? There isn't much published about it, aside from this blurb on Topix:

An attorney for the owners of the Bell Market site in San Carlos said a lease with a grocery company could be signed by the end of this month.

A similar vague comment is posted on the San Carlos Chamber of Commerce website. As of now, the facility serves as a convenient parking lot for Starbucks and other nearby business, as well as a great shredding location for local skateboarders. But what's the future of this building?

Anybody have the “inside scoop?” Add a comment!

I wrote to Whole Foods and Mollie Stones (separately) in Dec. 2007 to suggest the old Bell Market location to them. Mollie’s owner wrote back almost immediately saying he is aware of the location and will look into it again. Crossing my fingers! I never did hear back from Whole Foods.

Wow — I hadn’t thought of Mollie Stones as a possibility. What a great idea. It would fit in perfectly in San Carlos, and it’s far more likely than Whole Foods, since they already have a store across from Sequoia Station. I just hope it’s not another chain like Safeway/Lucky’s/etc… Something unique and organic would be ideal.

Let’s hope for the best! Thanks for your comments..
