4/25 Update:  The grand opening of the new Bianchini's will be this Wednesday, April 29th.  Check the Bianchini's website for more details..

The pace of the work has quickened in recent weeks, the parking lot has been re-striped, and  the building is now surrounded by a variety of contractor's trucks.   This can only mean one thing:  The transformation of the old Bell Market building at 810 Laurel St in San Carlos is almost complete, and the new Bianchini's Market will be opening soon. To add to the speculation,  today the owners of Foodville announced that the old Foodville location at 616 Laurel Street will close its doors for good this coming Sunday, March 22 2009.

Bianchini Market

When compared to some other projects that I've seen take place in San Carlos, the move from the old Foodville location to the Bell Market building seemed to happen at a break-neck pace.  This wasn't my imagination – one of my clients is a manager for one of the subcontractors working on this job, and he told me the City of San Carlos has been blazingly fast in answering questions and getting permits approved.  (No doubt that their incentive to start collecting sales tax could be motivating them to fast-track this project?   Call me crazy…)

I'm excited to see the new market when it opens.  Replacing the venerable Bell Market with an upscale grocery market was a good choice, and I think it will serve the residents of San Carlos very well.   But that still leaves one question yet to be answered:

What will become of the “old” Foodville location?
