Community Groups

I love to see when concerned citizens get organized to constructively improve some facet of life in San Carlos. The White Oaks Neighborhood Organization is great example of a neighborhood that has banded together to help the police fight crime and vandalism. But there's another well-organized and influential citizen's group that has been in existence for quite some time, and they're intimately involved in some of the bigger projects that are being planned for San Carlos in the near future…

The Greater East San Carlos (GESC) Residents Group.

The GESC initially formed a few years back as the Laureola Association, and their focus is to work constructively with the City of San Carlos and their development partners on such key project as the San Carlos Transit Village, High-Speed Rail, and the Holly Street Widening Project to provide critical citizen feedback on these projects. Rather than taking a “not in my back yard” (NIMBY) approach to all development in San Carlos, the GESC gets involved early in these key projects to make sure that the citizens of San Carlos have a voice in how these projects are planned and implemented.

Input needed on the San Carlos Transit Village

The GESC board has been working closely with Legacy Partners, SamTrans and the City to establish development parameters, loss mitigations/impacts and benefits all affecting our community. The San Carlos Transit Village will be the biggest and highest impact development slated for San Carlos, and yet hardly anyone knows the facts surrounding this proposed development including the economic, environmental and general quality of life impacts it will have on our city.

The GESC would like to get input from residents, especially those on the west side of the City.  The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Transit Village is being drafted right now, so getting input is critical at this stage.   The GESC will be canvassing neighborhoods in the upcoming weeks to share information they've learned about the project, and soliciting feedback from residents.

If you'd like to find out more, or better yet, if you'd like to get involved check out the GESC Website for more information.
