twitter3One Cool City

In keeping with its reputation as being an innovator in using technology to keep residents informed,  the City of San Carlos just announced that they have created a Twitter feed that's linked to the City Website.  This will enable residents who follow the feed to get real-time updates on what's happening in the City of Good Living.

I love Twitter, although I have to admit that it took me quite awhile to figure out what to do with this tool.  But I follow all the major news outlets in the Bay Area (KTVU, KRON, KCBS, and KGO)  and it's an amazing resource to get breaking news.  Heck, I even follow the White House and Barack Obama on their Twitter Feeds.    Seems like we're old friends now…

Ahead of the Curve

According to this article in the San Francisco Examiner, San Carlos is once ahead of the technology curve.    San Francisco is the only other local city beside San Carlos to offer a Twitter Feed that's linked to its official website.    But I have to believe other communities will follow suit, as their residents will demand more transparency and communication from their elected officials.

So be sure to check out the City of San Carlos on Twitter.  Oh yeah…if you're so inclined, feel free to follow me too 😉

So far I have not been impressed by the city’s feed. I give them major props for being on Twitter, but they were spamming the account for awhile. I hope it was just them figuring out how to use the tool because it does seem a little better lately.

Agreed. I also noticed that the police activity log is published sporadically and it’s not all that thorough when they do send one out. That’s more of a function of the info that’s put in, and not Twitter.

I hope the City puts the necessary work into this feed to make it useful, though.
