From what I gather, the City Council already looked at this option a few years ago and shot it down.

If In n Out comes in San Carlos, many small restaurant owners will have hard time especially burger shops. Big corporation makes tons of money while small restaurant owners have to work very hard just to make payments.

In-N-Out Burgers will be a nice addition to the entry to San Carlos. But the annual sales tax revenue from that development is only $30,000 to $40,000 per year according to the Daily Journal story. That's a far cry from the $2.7 million per year the City is looking for to balance their budget.

Adding Parking Meters to the Downtown was actually discussed - and dropped - from the City's Climate Action Plan by the City Council. Revenue from that is said to be around $100,000 per year. But it would change the character of the downtown. And again, a far cry from the revenue that would come if Measure U passes.

Chuck,
How about the idea of adding parking meters to downtown San Carlos as a way of bringing in revenue?

Funny you mention that -- I was thinking exactly the same thing. I wonder how the inclusion of a gold mine like In-N-Out will change the viewpoint on Measure U. The problem lies with timing -- I think the City needs cash right now, and the revenue we'd see from In-N-Out is at least a year away.
