Halloween Happenings in San Carlos.

It's time to pick out your pumpkin, find a costume, and have some fun.  Halloween is just around the corner.   And this year, Halloween falls on a Saturday night (much to the elation every San Carlos school teacher) so it should be an extra-festive evening.   There's always something cooking in or around San Carlos on Halloween.  I thought I'd highlight a few for both the little kids and the adult kids.    If you know of any other events, please let everyone know by posting a comment below…   Here goes:

Trick-or-Treating on Eucalyptus Avenue

The street that's more known for its annual Christmas extravaganza also puts on an amazing spectacle for Halloween. Much like they do around the holidays, virtually every home on the two blocks of Eucalyptus Avenue is decorated to the nines. These two short blocks have gotten so popular in recent years, that they actually blocked the street off last year,  which made it more like Mardi Gras than it did Halloween. Just missing the beads…

It's a great place to take the kids — the decorations are incredible, and the neighbors are VERY generous with the candy.   With fire pits blazing in some of the driveways, you'll very likely run into tons of friends and neighbors there, too.  Just keep a close eye on your trick-or-treater, because with so many kids milling around in costume, it's amazingly easy to lose track of your kid even when they're only 10 feet away.

Sequoia High School Presents:  Dracula

Looking for something to do this weekend to get you in the Halloween spirit?  The Sequoia High School Visual and Performing Arts Department is putting on a short run of Bram Stoker's classic “Dracula.”  Show times will be this coming weekend Oct 24th and 25th (see below for details.)

Carrington Hall at Sequoia is a great place to catch a play, and Sequoia's Visual and Performing Arts Department has put on some great performances there.    Tickets are only $5-$10, and you can purchase them online at this link:  Show Tickets.

“Halloween Haunted Hanger” at Hiller Aviation Museum.

Some fun for the little trick-or-treaters in your house.   Hiller Aviation Museum is hosting the Halloween Haunted Hangar this year on Friday and Saturday, October 30th and 31st.  Each day the witch arrives by helicopter and drops a pumpkin to get things off to a smashing start, and then the festivities continue inside! Explore the Museum’s Gallery if you dare to hunt for hidden haunts.   For more details and times, click on this link:

Studio 54 Costume Party at Piacere

And finally, for the “big” kids who still like dressing up and having some fun, Piacere Restaurant in San Carlos is hosting a “Studio 54-style” costume party on Halloween night.   The place will be hopping with DJ music, and prizes will be awarded in several categories for best costume.   No cover charge, so the place will most certainly be jumping on Friday night.     Click this link for more details:

What happens on Laurel Street, stays on Laurel Street.     I couldn't fathom saying saying that 15 years ago….

What else is happening in San Carlos?

Got a great street for trick or treating?  Any other fun venues for kids or grown-ups?  Be sure to leave a comment below and let everyone know.   No matter what you do, forget this stupid recession for one night and have some fun…

Just a couple blocks over from Eucalyptus on Arroyo – 1944 Arroyo Ave – is the most decorated Halloween Haunt in San Carlos. The front yard display is already up – and there are a number of extra surprise bonuses that come out only on Halloween Night that the kids love! Be sure to stop by. There’s candy and hot chocolate for kids, and some food and drink treats for adults too!

Not sure about the hot chocolate – but the rest is true!!!

The San Carlos Parks & Rec along with The SC Chamber are hosting the Dwontown “Goblin Walk” Friday, October 30th 4-5:30 PM.

Kids must be accompanied by parents. Wear your costumes and come trick or treat at ALL the local merchants on Laurel Street displaying “GOBLIN WALK” Signs!

Participating merchants include Bianchini’s, The Kids Company, Glinda’s Fudge, Bon Vie Studios, and many more. You can pick up a “Goblin Walk” Trick or Treat bag from one of the many volunteers who will be downtown before you visit the merchants. This promises to be a fun community event and it’s absolutley FREE.

Eucalyptus is great for bringing the community together, and I think that’s to be applauded. However, as a homeowner two streets over from Eucalyptus, the past couple of Halloweens have been quite a letdown as we see car after car parking on our street and their owners heading over to Eucalyptus without nary a look in our direction.
I can’t tell you how disappointing it is to see our trick and treaters dwindle from hundreds to handfuls. I love Eucalyptus at Christmas, but it’d be great to have Halloween back.

‘@BA Mom. You can have the kids back. Eucalyptus has been a bit over the top the last few years, but it sounds like it will be much more scaled back this year.
