My brain still thinks it’s October, but my calendar is telling me otherwise. The sunshine and 70 degree weather certainly didn’t help much, either. But the Christmas and Holiday season is once again upon us, and there’s no shortage of things to do around San Carlos for young and old to get you in the spirit. Here are a few ideas…
Santa Arrives by Helicopter – December 5th.
Who needs a sleigh when you can travel in a cool helicopter? Once again, Santa makes his big arrival in San Carlos at the Hiller Aviation Museum. This year he’ll make his grand entrance on Saturday, December 5th and will hang out at the museum from 10-12 before he is whisked off in another cool vehicle (fire engine) to downtown San Carlos. He’ll greet kids there from noon until 2 PM.
Santa will also be at the “Santa House” in the B of A parking lot on Laurel Street every Saturday in December from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Be sure to bring your cameras and lots of money to spend downtown.
Christmas Tree Lighting — City Hall
The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held on Thursday December 10, 6:00 PM at the City Hall Park (corner of Elm Street and San Carlos Avenue.) If you come, bring non-perishable food donation for the Mayor’s Food Drive and an unwrapped new toy for the Youth Advisory Council’s Toy Drive. The kids can also meet Santa in the City Hall lobby!
Visit Santa at the Firehouse
What more could a kid want? Fire engines and Santa Claus – I’d be in heaven! The great guys at South County Fire always put on a great event for families. Stop by for some holiday cheer, and get your picture taken with Santa on one of those cool rigs. Be sure to bring unwrapped toys for their holiday toy drive.
This year, Santa will visit two firehouses. Here’s the scoop:
- Thursday, December 10: 5:00PM – 8:00 PM, Fire Station 14 — 911 Granada Street, Belmont.
- Friday, December 11: 5:00PM – 8:00 PM, Fire Station 13 — 525 Laurel Street, San Carlos.
Eucalyptus Avenue: “Christmas Tree Lane”
The residents of Eucalyptus never take it easy over the Thanksgiving weekend. As they do every year, they were out in force putting up about a billion lights and decorations. They have already transformed Eucalyptus into a dazzling array of lights and sounds — simply park your car anywhere in the vicinity and take a leisurely stroll down both blocks of Eucalyptus. Even if you have seen it before, it never ceases to amaze!
