SCSD-Door

Two Seats Become Available in the Fall.

Did you ever think that you might want roll your sleeves up and work on the real nuts-and-bolts issues that affect San Carlos Schools?  Or, perhaps you're just interested in learning more about how the whole school board governing process works?  This coming November, two of the San Carlos School Board seats —  those currently held by Trustees Seth Rosenblatt and Tom Quiggle — will be up for election, and the Superintendent of the San Carlos School District would like you to better understand just what goes on behind the scenes of the San Carlos Schoo Board…either for your casual curiosity, or in case you decide that you might want to run for one of those two seats.  Neither of the incumbents has yet publicly stated whether or not they will run again for their seat, since they don't need to do so until the summer.

On Thursday May 19th, the San Carlos School District will host an informal meeting that will outline just what it takes to become a board member, and what you'll do once you are elected.   Here are the details that were sent in an email to the district parents:

School Board Elections Coming Soon

Dear San Carlos Community,

As you may be aware, 2011 is an election year for the San Carlos School Board. This November, voters will elect two members to the school board. Many of you have asked what it takes to run for school board and what it's like to serve as a Trustee. Given that potential candidates must declare their intentions to run by this summer, the school board would like to hold an informal information session for anyone interested in running for school board or just wants to learn more about it. This session will be on Thursday, May 19th at 7:00pm at the Central Middle School library and is open to all. Specific areas that we'll cover include:

– What is the process to run for office?

– What is involved in running an election campaign?

– What are the responsibilities of a board member?

– What time commitment is involved?

– What else is involved in being a school board trustee besides attending meetings?

Current school board members will be here to give you their perspective and answer these and other questions. Come join us!

Sincerely,
Craig Baker
