A Lively Discussion on Tap.

The chamber room of the San Carlos City Council has played host to a number of lively and spirited debates over the past two years, with the outsourcing of police and park services, and the disbanding of the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department providing fuel for some unforgettable exchanges amongst the public and council members alike.     It seems lately that there's a camera truck from a local networks setting up shop outside City Hall just about every other week.

This Monday's City Council meeting will very likely provide another indelible chapter in the history of San Carlos politics, as the Council has the somber and unenviable task of naming a mid-term replacement for both the mayor and vice-mayor positions in the wake of the sudden and tragic passing of Omar Ahmad just two short weeks ago.   The Council must also decide how and when to fill his vacant seat on the dais.

Both of these topics are likely to draw strong and polarizing opinions from Council members and the public once again, especially in light of all of the events that have transpired in the city over the past two weeks.

The Agenda.

The full meeting agenda was just published by the City of San Carlos, and here are the key topics to be discussed:

  • Selection of a Mayor and Vice Mayor for May – December, 2011 (Item # 7a)
  • Discuss filling Council Vacancy & Consider Appointment for Balance of Omar Ahmad's Term (Item # 7b)
  • Monthly Update – Fire & Emergency Services in San Carlos (Item # 8a)
  • Public Hearing – 2011 Sewer Rates (Item # 9a)
  • Public Hearing – 2011 Solid Waste Rates (Item # 9b)
  • Adopt Class Specification for Emergency Preparedness Coordinator & Amend Salary Schedule – San Carlos Fire Department (Item #10c)

The meeting starts promptly at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers at 600 Elm Street, San Carlos.    This will definitely be a worthwhile use of your time to attend.   If you're concerned about catching shrapnel from flying rhetoric and hearsay, you can always watch the proceedings live on Comcast Ch. 27.    I have a hunch this will be one that we'll remember for a while.

So after last weekend’s incident on 280, is Andy Klein still going for the mayor position? Seems to me that Andy is a poor role model

Given the transgressions of politicians lately, Andy wouldn’t be the first to have embarassed his constituency. My respect for politicians sinks lower each day. Any lesser mortal would have resigned by now.

What sayeth yee now Pat Bell and Matt Grocott?

I’d take one Andy Klein over eight Matt Grocotts – even if it was for coming over and cleaning up my yard.

There’s something to be said for intellectual honesty; and for that matter, there’s something to be said for intellect.

I’m disapointed in Bob Graselli – Bob – step up and don’t sweat the November election too much, Do what is right!

What? This is out of context, so I’m not sure what your point is. I had not commented on this blog when you posted this, so I don’t know what you’re attacking me about.

Under the city’s ethics code, Andy is not qualified to be Mayor or Vice Mayor.

    The ethics code says:

Mayoral & Vice Mayoral Selection Process
Serving as Mayor or Vice Mayor is considered to be a privilege, not a right. The Mayor and Vice
Mayor serve at the pleasure of the City Council and may be replaced at any time by a majority
vote of the council. At the time of selection (as described in the Municipal Code), any member of
the City Council may be nominated to serve as Mayor or Vice Mayor. Individuals who are elected
to serve as Mayor or Vice Mayor should be chosen because of their ability to fulfill the roles and
responsibilities of these positions, establish a respectful and collegial working relationship with
the Council, and ultimately, serve the community.

You are welcome to the one Andy Klein who is on the council at the moment, and his intellectual honesty is just about right for cleaning up your yard.

Bob is not running in the November election. The only thing he said about November was to agree with your dear Andy about the temporary member not running in November. Is that what ticked you off, his agreement with Andy? That bothered me too.

I have no idea what the reference to me and Matt is about.

It would be helpful if your rants were more coherent, speaking of intellect.
