What is the Most Common Name?

Last week, I tried to stump the readers of the White Oaks Blog with a question about the streets of San Carlos:  What is the most commonly used suffix to name our various streets and roads?    Is it “Street”?  Or “Avenue”?   Or how about “Road”?

One interesting outcome from this exercise, aside from finding out which one was the ultimate winner, was discovering that there are no fewer than ten different suffixes that are currently in use.  There were several that I hadn't even thought of.

74 of you registered your guess in the poll, and results are tabulated below.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

“Avenue” is the Winner.

Many of you guessed correctly – “Avenue” is the most commonly used suffix for the streets in City of Good Living.  But interestingly,  “Street” garnered the second highest total of votes.   As you'll see below, it's only the 5th most common suffix in the city, falling behind some very unlikely candidates.   So here's the tally:

Name
# of Times Used
“Avenue”
67
“Lane”
40
“Drive”
39
“Court”
38
“Street”
34
“Way”
22
“Road”
18
“Boulevard”
3
“Circle”
1
“Knolls”
1

So now you know more about the Streets of San Carlos… errr, or the Avenues, if you will. Thanks to all who participated in the poll!
