Curbside Pickup.

Now that Christmas is over and the New Year is knocking on the door, it's time for many to start taking down their holiday decorations, and to dispose of the old, dry Christmas tree.     Recology San Mateo County can't help you with the decorations, but they certainly can help you get rid of your old tree.

Through January 31, all you need to do is put your old tree out on the curb next to the green bin on your normal recycle day.   Recology will pick up the tree and then compost it to prevent it from going to the landfill.    You simply need to make sure that everything is off the tree when you put it out at the curb (no decorations, stands, or grandma's stale fruitcake,  please.)

But be sure to do this before January 31st.  First of all, keeping an old dry tree in your home for that long is a potential fire hazard.  Second, if you wait until after the 31st, you will then have to cut the tree into small pieces yourself and stuff it into the green bin.   That doesn‘t sound like fun.   For more information, see Recology's site or contact them at 650-595-3900.

On that note, Happy New Year from the White Oaks Blog.   May 2014 be safe, healthy, and prosperous for you!
