Goetz Brothers Moves to San Carlos

Goetz

After over 7 decades as a downtown Redwood City fixture, Goetz Brothers Sporting Goods is leaving its Broadway address and moving north to San Carlos. Citing the need for more space and parking, the family owned business has opted to move the venerable store to the Brittan Corners Shopping Center at 1125 Industrial Road in San Carlos.

Goetz has been on Broadway for as long as I can remember.  Having been a baseball player growing up in Redwood City, it was always the “go-to” store for any of my needs — gloves, bats, shirts, cleats, and just about whatever you needed for any sport. You just didn't go anywhere else. I have fabulous memories walking through the narrow store with my Dad and taking in the smell of brand new glove leather.

But what many people don't realize is that Goetz also used to be a music store. I got my first electric guitar and amplifier at here, and purchased a fair amount of sheet music as well. Over time, they got out of the music business, but I always get a twinge of nostalgia when I remember spotting that guitar on the stand when I was only 11 years old.

Like any company that decides to move locations, there's always the risk of losing clientele. But hopefully with the larger store and better parking, they will continue to thrive here in San Carlos. The recent demise of the Sports Authority franchise should actually help Goetz, since I feel that purchasing sporting goods is still a visceral decision that requires actually touching the goods.  Maybe I'm just old fashioned in that respect, but there's nothing better than picking up a wood bat off the rack and holding it in your hand — something that you can't do online.

Welcome to San Carlos, Goetz Brothers! Here's to another 80 years of success.

Thank you for welcoming Goetz Bros to San Carlos. We will continue to serve Redwood City but look forward to being more accessible to San Carlos and neighboring cities with better parking and quick freeway access. My son Brent still lives in Redwood City and son Marc lives in San Carlos. Come by and see us

I have shopped at Goetz Bros. Sporting goods for years when I played sports, and when I coached. I would buy my team golf shirts there, the service was good price was right. I have also known the Goetz Bros. Steve and Rich for over 50 years we went to San Carlos High together, good people.

Even before they sold musical instruments they also sold TVs. Steve and I were best friends growing up and we got a TV from his dad to watch the Braves win the 1957 World Series and again in 1960 when the Pirates beat the Yankees!
