New Listing: 991 Cambridge Road, Redwood City

If there was ever a neighborhood in the local area that checked many of the same boxes for potential home buyers that San Carlos did, then in my mind that neighborhood is the Farm Hills area of Redwood City. Just like San Carlos, Farm Hills has very nice homes on some great streets, and feeds into a very desirable school. It's the very area that I grew up in many years ago. You may relinquish the proximity to downtown when you choose this neighborhood, but in return you generally get newer, larger homes on much bigger lots. And you gain a much quicker connection to Highway 280 — which is a big plus for those of you who call Apple or Genentech your second home. (If you've tried getting up to 280 from the flats during commute hours, you know exactly what I mean!)

You generally get much more house and yard for your dollar in Farm Hills than you do in San Carlos. Not by accident, I have placed a number of very happy home buyers in this area who were originally looking in San Carlos, but ultimately realized they couldn't find the home they wanted within their budget there.

That's why I am so pleased that my newest listing is indeed in the Farm Hills neighborhood of Redwood City, because there's so much overlap with San Carlos.  991 Cambridge Road hits the market this weekend, and it's a truly fabulous home.

With 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms, this 2,030 square foot home sports a superb layout that is functional for just about any homeowner.  Like many homes in Farm Hills, it's a split-level design, which affords you generous square footage without eating up too much of your yard. In this particular floor plan, the three bedrooms (including the elegant master suite) are all located close together on the top level — great for families with small kids. The upstairs area also features an elegantly updated kitchen, which flows perfectly into the dining area and the spacious living room.

That alone should make this home a hot commodity. But the downstairs area is where even more magic happens.  On the lower level you'll find a family room that, in conjunction with the adjacent room, creates a totally self-contained space that is perfect as an au pair suite, or simply a place for long-term visitors to stay. The sellers have even added a spacious bonus room under the back deck that is configured as an exercise room, but can easily be used as a home office or just extra storage.  And let's not forget the separate laundry room and the large 2-car garage.

As I mentioned above, this split level design gives you a great sized house on a relatively small footprint, so you have a ton of yard left over. This home is no exception. The mostly flat 8,584 square foot lot is literally a blank canvas that is awaiting your creative touch. But literally anything is possible back here — sport court, pool, expansive garden — you name it.  Good luck finding a lot this large in San Carlos…

991 Cambridge Road is attractively priced at $1,555,000, making it one of the best values in all of Farm Hills. I will have it open on both Saturday and Sunday of this weekend from 1:00-4:00, so please stop by and check it out, even if you have your heart set on San Carlos. You'll be glad you did.  And if your schedule simply doesn't permit coming by, you can always take a 3D Matterport tour of the house below:

Chuck, I’ve always liked the Farm Hills neighborhood, with its wide streets and larger lots than one would typically find in other neighborhoods in the area (not to mention is good freeway access to/from I-280 and proximity to Canada College, as well).
