San Carlos by the Numbers.
I’ve been a homeowner in San Carlos much longer than I’ve been a Realtor in San Carlos. One thing I noticed years ago was that it was virtually impossible for the average person to find any key information about the local real estate market — what price a home sold for, how many homes have sold, average sales price, and so on. That data simply wasn’t available to the general public. You could wait a month after a sale closed in hopes that it would be published in the local newspaper. But how was the typical buyer or seller in San Carlos supposed to understand what was truly happening in this market?
The White Oaks Blog was created in 2007 with the solution to that problem in squarely in mind. While you’ll find lots of good articles in this site about the City of San Carlos and the various things that make this City so unique, the heart and soul of this blog is real estate data — and lots of it.
Every Monday, you’ll find a concise summary of what happened in the San Carlos market the previous week in the Real Estate Week in Review series. From sold prices, to new listings, to the homes that just went pending, it’s all there in one information-packed post, for both single family homes and condos. It’s easily the most popular article on the blog every week.
If that weekly post was the only data that you could find on this site, it would still be a tremendously valuable tool for home buyers and sellers. But it’s really the tip of the iceberg. Throughout the year, I mine real estate data in San Carlos from every conceivable angle — from micro-neighborhood trends to specific home configurations, with the intent of giving you a better idea what’s happening in the local market.
Raw data without analysis is just…numbers. So many other real estate sites will inundate you with charts and graphs, with absolutely no explanation what the numbers actually mean. I draw from my experience as a 25-year resident of San Carlos and one of the only technically-degreed Realtors to tell you the story behind the data that I post on the site.
It’s that level of data analysis and insight that has made the White Oaks Blog the most widely read real estate blog dedicated to the San Carlos real estate market (source: Alexa web traffic statistics.)
I hope you enjoy reading the site as much as I enjoy writing it.
Who Am I?
Since I became a San Carlos-focused Realtor in 2007, I have been consistently ranked in the top 5 of agents serving the San Carlos market. In 2015, I was the #4 ranked individual agent in total sales volume for San Carlos homes. Along with my business partner Bob Bredel, we were far and away the top sales team servicing the San Carlos market in 2015!
I have been a resident of the San Francisco Peninsula for the past 51 years…long before the term “Silicon Valley” was coined. For the past 27 years, I have lived in San Carlos and as you can tell from my posts, I am very passionate about this little town. I think San Carlos is one of the greatest places on the planet — that’s why I live in here, and why I love to share what I know about it with you.
I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and I proudly bring 20+ years of successful high-tech sales experience to the real estate field. I also believe in giving back to the community that I call home. When I’m not helping people buy and sell homes, you might find me on a local soccer field as a volunteer referee for San Carlos AYSO.
What Do My Clients Think?
Providing outstanding service is the hallmark of my business. I strive to ensure that every transaction handled in the utmost professional manner, and that my clients feel thrilled with the service they received. Here’s just a sample of what some of my clients have said about their experience:
“My wife and I loved working with Chuck Gillooley. As first time home buyers he was very patient with us, talked us through the whole process and provided us a great education on home buying. Chuck walked through a lot of junky houses with us in our quest to buy and he always approached his job with a good mixture of professionalism and humor. He’s down to Earth, friendly and straightforward with you and works hard for his clients. If you’re looking for a home on the Peninsula, Chuck is a great realtor to work with.” — Robert and Laura M, San Mateo
“When we initially set out to select a realtor, we wanted that person to be: 1) intelligent and experienced; 2) knowledgeable about our targeted areas; and 3) honest and trustworthy. Our agent, Chuck Gillooley, truly met and exceeded our expectations in all 3 areas. We recently purchased our first home, and it was his expert guidance that helped us win the bid in a multiple-offer environment.
Chuck is a consummate professional who knows his business and is sensitive to his clients’ needs. Before we met him we had already wasted countless hours on MLS and spent many weekends randomly visiting open homes. Although we have lived in the Bay Area for many years, we weren’t sure of exactly what we wanted or how much we could afford. It was only after we started working with Chuck that we began to narrow our search in a meaningful way. Chuck shared his immense knowledge of the neighborhoods that we were interested in, educated us on how to look for the negative (as well as positive) aspects of a home, and kept us abreast of market trends and conditions at all times. He encouraged us to see homes that he knew we would like as soon as they came on the market, but remained flexible when there was a change in our search parameters.
Purchasing a home is an inherently stressful process, especially for first-time buyers, but Chuck added tremendous value and gave us the professional support we needed. He answered every real estate question we had in a thorough and intelligent manner – from the pros/cons about a property to the finer details in the purchase agreement and inspection reports to the logistic of closing escrow…and everything in between. Chuck is a true advisor in that he’ll provide balanced feedback and as much data as you need, but let you make your own informed decision.
Beyond his professional strengths, Chuck is enjoyable to work with because he’s also a genuinely nice person. He is incredibly responsive and accessible, and very generous with his time. If you have any real estate needs on the peninsula – and *especially* in San Carlos – you should absolutely call Chuck. He is outstanding!” — Paul and Irene D., San Carlos
“We chose Chuck as our real estate agent based on his website and a face-to-face meeting (we did not have a personal referral). He helped to make our first-time home-buying process as smooth as possible. For us, he was the perfect agent. He was well-informed, reliable, available, on-the-ball, friendly, pleasant and an all-around great guy. Chuck is not the pushy salesman type, but provides advice when asked. He seemed completely honest and above-board in his approach. He is meticulous and his attention to detail was very reassuring (compared to seller’s agent who seemed scatterbrained). Chuck knows San Carlos intimately, which is where we wanted to buy; when we ended up going with a different town, he was flexible and accommodating. Highly recommend!” — Alisha D & Jason R, Burlingame
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a great job. You have definitely met my expectations of a professional Realtor. You kept me completely up to date each step of the way prior to going on the market, while we were on the market, during the open houses, and as the interest of potential buyers grew. Your professional attitude during the presentation of offers and handling of each agent after we decided on the best offer for us was very assuring to me. I would not hesitate to recommend you to my family or friends.” — Sharon S., San Carlos
“Chuck did way over what I expected him to do – even vacuuming the carpets before an open house! But the best thing about Chuck is that he is a caring, considerate, and helpful – and just an all-around nice guy. I already told him that if the need arose, I’d use him again.” — Joanne E. – San Carlos
“Chuck is an incredibly friendly, polite and respectful person with a very accommodating personality, which translates well into his work as a Realtor. As my Realtor for my first home purchase, Chuck was not only very professional, but very thorough. He’s well adept at using all forms of technology to get any possible information you may need on a home. Even though I ended up purchasing in San Bruno, Chuck’s knowledge of the Redwood City / San Carlos area is incredible and allowed me to gauge what would be the best fit in my price range. He was never pushy and rarely offered his own opinions unless they were asked for. During our escrow period Chuck was on the ball, making sure everything from inspections to the mortgage was taken care of in a prompt and efficient manner.
I’ve been my new home over three weeks and I have Chuck to thank for the great deal I got. If anyone asks me for advice on a Realtor in the peninsula area, Chuck will be the first person I mention, no doubt about it!!“ — Ken P., San Bruno
“I have significant experience working with professionals in the corporate world and I was very impressed by the amount of preparation (Chuck) put into each house hunting trip. He clearly operates at the highest level of professionalism, and he treated these first time buyers, who are working with a limited budget, as though they were buying the largest piece of property in the Bay Area. Chuck is an ALL STAR in our eyes.” — Stephen M., Carmel, CA
“…Service couldn’t have been better! Thank you!” — David L. and Sally R., Pacifica
