“San Carlos Photo Friday” – April 16, 2010.

We Have a Winner!

1017 Orange Avenue, San Carlos

Last week we had two responses about the picture on the right, and one of them was a winner!  Angie McDonnell correctly pegged this home as the Cresta Estate at 1017 Orange Avenue.  Sharp eyes, Angie!   For that detective work, she gets a $25 gift card to Starbucks courtesy of the White Oaks Blog.

Rico also weighed in with an guess on Eucalyptus, which was very close in proximity as well as appearance.   This shouldn’t be too surprising, since many of these circa-1940′s homes look very similar to each other.    There was probably 5-10 different floorplans that were repeated every other block!

This Week’s Photo:

???, San Carlos

Anyone care to venture a guess where this house might be located?  It’s a bit more unique than last week’s entry, so perhaps it will jog your memory.   (I’ll give you a hint this week as well….it’s in White Oaks this time…)

The first person with the correct guess wins a $25 gift card to Skinny Sippin’, home of the best smoothies in San Carlos!

Thanks once again to the Museum of San Carlos History for making these classic photos available to the White Oaks Blog.   Be sure to check out the museum for more great photos, and other fascinating information on the history of San Carlos.

Good luck!

New Feature: “San Carlos Photo Friday” – A Snapshot to the Past.

April 9, 2010 Photo Friday 2 Comments

A Look Back…

I’m pleased to announce another new feature on the White Oaks Blog.  Thanks to a unique arrangement between the Museum of San Carlos History and the White Oaks Blog, the Museum has generously made some of their incredible collection of San Carlos historical photographs available to readers of the White Oaks Blog.    The photos that will be featured here on the site represent just a small fraction of the photos that they have on display at the Museum, so if you’re interested in learning more about the rich history of San Carlos, be sure to visit this great museum.

History, With a Little Twist.

Rather than just post the photos, I thought we’d make a little contest out of this feature.  History is always more interesting when there’s a little competition sprinkled in, right?  So here’s the deal.   I’m going to borrow a page out of my colleague Jim Minkey’s superb Foster City Blog, where he runs a wildly popular weekly feature title the “Funky Foto Contest“.   Each week, Jim posts a mystery picture of some landmark in Foster City, and the first reader to properly identify that landmark wins a dream date with Jim some sort of cool prize.

We’ll do something similar here, except this contest will prove to be a bit more challenging because the house (or landmark) that you’ll need to identify is from a reeeeeeeeeally old photo.

Our First Entry:

???, San Carlos CA -- Circa 1946

Any idea where this house is located? The first person to post a comment with the correct address will win a $25 Starbucks gift card! All guesses (correct or otherwise) will be posted in the comment section.  The correct address, as well as the winner, will be announced next week.   Everyone is eligible, except other Realtors.  Because that just wouldn’t be fair ;-)

Need a hint to get started on this one?  It’s located in Howard Park.    Good Luck!!
