White Oaks Defined

May 25, 2008

I field this question quite often from blog readers: Where exactly is the White Oaks neighborhood of San Carlos? That's a great question — and depending on who you ask, you're likely to get a different answer.

Historically, most people loosely described “White Oaks” as the area several blocks in all directions from White Oaks Elementary School. Over time, the name was understood to include an ever increasing area around the school, but still with no clearly defined boundaries.

In the Multiple Listing Service, all communities are sub-divided up into “areas” — San Carlos has 6 of them, and larger communities have even more. The sub-area that most closely defines White Oaks is Area 352, which is officially know as El Sereno Corte. For the purpose of this blog, El Sereno Corte and White Oaks are interchangeable.

So, here's a map of the area that we call “White Oaks.” (Click on the “View Larger Map” link at the bottom, and you can explore all around the area.)
