Ideas Galore.
Some people know exactly how they want to remodel their home, right down to the knobs and the door handles. They can envision how they will utilize every square inch of their new space, and have already decided on the decor. But I would guess that for most homeowners who are undertaking such a project, they would absolutely embrace the idea of a (free) resource that could show them color photos of literally thousands of home remodel projects. That resource would ideally be online, so that it can be updated regularly, and it would be easy to search by home styles, and specific areas of the house.
Does such a resource exist? Absolutely. Thanks to one of my clients for turning me on to Houzz. For those of you who already know about it, no further explanation is necessary. For those of you house lovers who have never seen it, be forewarned that this site is highly addictive and has the potential to become a bigger time-sink for you than Facebook, but in a good way!
Projects and More.
What makes Houzz such a great resource is the quality of the photos and the ease of searching the site. The projects are sorted by style, so if you're only interested in contemporary for example, you can filter the results to just show contemporary remodel projects. But that's only the beginning — the photos are also sorted by the specific area of the house that you're interested in (kitchen, powder room, etc..) So if you were interested in seeing photos of contemporary kitchens, it's two simple clicks, and here's a sample of what you would get:
You can even sort by specific metro areas, so if you want to see the latest and greatest in just New York, it's a click away.
iPad App.
For those of you on-the-go, all of the Houzz goodness is available on an their app that can be viewed on either an iPhone or an iPad. I haven't used it yet, but I've heard rave reviews about it. And while I'm sure it works well on both, I can imagine it's tailor-made for the iPad's large, high-resolution screen.
So check out Houzz, and let me know if there are any other sites out there worth sharing with the White Oaks Blog audience!

What an awesome app. With two kids in college and one more to go, it’s too bad I’ll never be able to afford a remodel.
I feel your pain…
