White Oaks to Host National Night Out — Tuesday, August 1 2017.
July 28, 2017
Eighth Annual Event
National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that is designed to get residents out of their homes to meet their neighbors and unite their neighborhood. It's traditionally in early August, and has become the catalyst for some amazing block parties all across the nation. Thanks to the help of San Carlos resident Ken Castle and a number of other dedicated volunteers, the White Oaks neighborhood was an early and eager proponent of National Night Out, and they have hosted the block party for the past 7 straight years right here in White Oaks.
National Night Out 2017 is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, August 1, and the dedicated White Oaks crew is ready to host their 8th consecutive event in San Carlos. Just as in past years, the event will take place on Sunnydale Avenue between Elm Street and Stanford Lane, and that section of Sunnydale will be completely closed off to vehicular traffic for the event. Here is more information about this special event:
What: National Night Out, White Oaks Version.
When: Tuesday August 1, 5:30PM – 8:00 PM
Where: Sunnydale Avenue, between Elm Street and Stanford Lane.

This is an ideal way to socialize with your neighbors, including new arrivals. And even though White Oaks is an area of approximately one square mile in size, we all share certain core values and an interest in helping and protecting one another. Sunnydale resident Bill Widner and his neighbors are again organizing the event, and will be dispensing goodies as part of the White Oaks Ice Cream Social, with delightful desserts from Robert’s Market and Marianne’s Ice Cream.
Oh, and don’t forget the ever-popular food trucks, where you can buy dinner. This time we’ll be visited by Speedi Panini and Whisk on Wheels. The first truck will be serving authentic Sicilian food, and for a glance at the menu check out the website here: SpeedyPanini.com. Whisk on Wheels offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, garlic fries and other goodies. You can check out Whisk’s menu here : sfwhisk.com. Why bother cooking dinner when it’s coming to you?
The San Carlos Bureau of the Sheriff’s Department is again planning to have demonstrations, vehicles and personnel on hand. Last year one of the highlights was the bomb disposal robot. In years past we’ve seen airboats, SWAT team vehicles, canine units and other equipment. Also, the fire department usually sends an engine company, depending on availability.
It’s a great opportunity for the kids to participate and for everyone to meet the men and women who are sworn to keep us safe.
So put the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 1 on your calendar. And bring the whole family!
