Outdoor Music is Finally Back!

July 7, 2021

San Carlos and Redwood City.

One of the many casualties that have resulted from the extended shelter-in-place is that there has been no live music (indoor or outdoors) for over a year. I don't know about you, but I get cabin fever very easily and this long of a period without live entertainment of any sort has been quite an adjustment.

But fear not — free live outdoor music is on its way back starting this week! Communities up and down the Peninsula are gearing up for reduced versions of their popular outdoor music series, and the two most popular venues in Redwood City and San Carlos have announced that they will have shows. The number of shows will be fewer in each case compared to previous years since communities have only recently re-opened, and of course in past years we'd already be 2-3 shows in by this time.

San Carlos' very popular Music in the Park series starts back up this Friday July 9 for an abbreviated 4-show run. The shows will be moved to the main grass area on Burton Park to allow for more social distancing. The schedule of shows will be updated at this site, but for now here are the four shows as of now:

  1. July 9: Carnaval (Santana Tribute Band)
  2. July 23: Busta Groove (Dance Music)
  3. August 6: The Delta Wires (Blues)
  4. August 20: E-Ticket (Oldies Rock n Roll)

Redwood City also hosts a very popular live music series at the Courthouse Square on Broadway, and it too will be back for a limited run this year starting next Friday July 16. Here is Redwood City's line-up for this summer:

  1. July 16: Tainted Love (80's Cover)
  2. July 23: Super Diamond (Neil Diamond Tribute)
  3. July 30: Steel ‘n Chicago (Steely Dan/Chicago Tribute)
  4. August 6: Mustache Harbor (Yacht Rock)
  5. August 13: Ticket to Ride (Beatles Tribute)
  6. August 20: Careless Whisper (80's Dance)
  7. August 27: Foreverland (Michael Jackson Tribute)
  8. September 3: Edgardo and Candela (Salsa)

Unfortunately, both of these cities live music events happen on the same night of the week and at the same time, so you'll need to pick one or the other to see.

Redwood City offers alternative venues on different nights, including the Music at the Park Series — held on Wednesday nights starting on July 14th at Stafford Park in Redwood City, or Sounds of the Shores in Redwood Shores on Sunday nights.
