The San Carlos Real Estate Week in Review: 8/17/26

August 17, 2026

TWOB---Week-in-Review---05

The Recap:

It's apparent from the sudden increase in vehicular traffic around town that vacations are over, and most everyone is back in town. There was a time when schools didn't start back in earnest until after Labor Day weekend, and the fall real estate market essentially mirrored this schedule. Now, with schools starting back up in mid-August, the real estate activity usually picks up right after the kids are back in class. This should be that week.

I'll certainly contribute to the fall kickoff, as I will be listing a beautiful four-bedroom home later this week at 2872 Roland Avenue in the lovely Alder Manor neighborhood. I'll post more details later this week on the blog, but if you're looking for a nicely updated home on a quiet cul-de-sac, reach out!

Last week, I took a little departure from the normal residential real estate reporting to drop in an op-ed about the long-planned closure of the 700 block of Laurel Street, and how, perhaps, what is being planned may no longer be the best solution. I'd love to get your take on the future of this prime block of shopping and dining in downtown San Carlos. Check it out and leave a comment.

Have a healthy and productive week! Here are the numbers from last week's market in San Carlos:

Would love to see laurel st fully open with the same parking it used to have. It was busy, bustling and vibrant with a good mix of various shops and a few restaurants. Now if you mention San Carlos to people who don’t live here they say “ oh San Carlos, bars and restaurants !” We really never had a problem with parking. Making San Carlos ave one way in each direction only is insanity. Can’t imagine the bottle neck getting to holly st. Not on favorite of the new plans. City fathers have lost their minds…
