The Recap:

Last week was one of the busier weeks this year for new listings. 13 single-family homes entered the market last week, which is one of the highest amounts for any single week. It's also an indication that we are getting toward the end of the spring real estate season. Since there are only two weeks until we are in the month of June, and one of those weekends is Memorial Day Weekend, the remaining sellers who haven't put their home on the market are rushing to do so before summer vacations start.

The summer months are not normally busy ones in the San Carlos real estate market because so many people put their house-hunting on hold to take a vacation. But with all of the global unrest and with gas prices being so high, I wonder if anyone is going to curtail their vacation plans. Especially those who plan to travel to countries where fuel shortages may dramatically impact the availability of transit.

There's also the issue of mortgage interest rates, which appear to be poised for an increase in the coming weeks. Most experts are predicting an increase in not only the Federal Reserve rate, but also the 10-year bond due to inflationary signals. The latter is more closely linked to mortgage interest rates, so it will be worth watching over the coming weeks.
